About this workbook
Much has been said and written about the role of a number of outstanding persons in South African politics. One of those individuals who largely contributed to making South Africa a new democratic nation is Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The obvious question that comes to mind is what role did he play and how unique was it and what is its educational implication? This workbook generally looks at the role and the unique qualities of Archbishop Desmond Tutu in addressing the problem of apartheid and its educational implication for a sustained dialogue on civic engagement and how to promote and manage any meaningful change in any given situation.

Part One specifically explores the environment where Archbishop Desmond Tutu finds himself. It briefly outlines the problem of Apartheid in South Africa.
Part Two examines the biography of Archbishop Desmond Tutu with a focus on his role as a contextual theologian and activist among others in South African politics.
Part Three analyzes the issues in the previous sections. It explores some of the unique leadership qualities that helped Archbishop Tutu to promote and attain the vision of a new democratic South Africa.
Part Four is on the application of lessons learned. It identifies a number of questions that take into consideration the unique leadership qualities of Archbishop Desmond Tutu which were covered in Part Three. On the whole, the workbook seeks to provide complementary and supplementary opportunities to sustain dialogue on important themes
such as leadership, change, diplomacy, and conflict management, which are very important in facilitating meaningful change in any given situation. The workbook is based on an academic paper Mr. Fiabu worked on in college on how effective leaders manage change.
